One of New Zealand’s most spectacular alpine landscapes, home to the highest peaks in the Southern Alps, immense glaciers, turquoise lakes, and some of the country’s most dramatic mountain scenery. Dominated by the towering presence of Aoraki / Mount Cook, the landscape offers endless opportunities to photograph rugged peaks, glacial valleys, and the ever-changing conditions of the alpine environment.

Surrounded by towering mountains, cascading waterfalls, and ancient rainforest, Milford Sound is one of New Zealand's most spectacular natural landscapes. Its dramatic scenery and constantly changing weather make it an exceptional destination for landscape photography.

The South Island of New Zealand is home to a variety of native birdlife, with opportunities to photograph species such as kiwi, kea, tūī, fantail, bellbird, and albatross. Workshop leader Dave Sanderson will be teaching the fundamentals of bird photography during our day photography sessions, covering techniques to help capture these species in their natural environments.

A beautifully secluded alpine lake located just outside Queenstown, surrounded by the rugged peaks and rolling landscapes of New Zealand’s Southern Alps. Known for its calm waters and distinctive horseshoe shape, the lake offers a peaceful alternative to the busier viewpoints of the region, with incredible reflections and uninterrupted views across the surrounding mountains.

One of New Zealand’s most iconic mountain ranges, rising dramatically above the shores of Lake Wakatipu near Queenstown. With their distinctive jagged peaks, rugged alpine ridgelines, and ever-changing light, they provide one of the most recognisable landscapes in the South Island.

Lindis Pass is one of the South Island’s most recognisable alpine landscapes, featuring rolling tussock-covered hills that stretch across the road between Cromwell and Omarama. During our autumn workshop, we will photograph the changing colours of the landscape, and if conditions are in our favor, we may even experience an early snowfall that transforms the pass into a winter scene.

The pine trees of Arrowtown create one of Central Otago’s most recognisable and atmospheric landscapes, standing tall against a backdrop of rugged mountains and open skies. These elegant trees add a strong sense of scale and structure to the surrounding environment, with their silhouettes often creating striking compositions in changing light and weather conditions.

New Zealand’s rainforests are some of the country’s most atmospheric and untouched landscapes, where dense native vegetation, towering trees, moss-covered forests, and flowing streams create a world of incredible detail and texture. These forests showcase the wild beauty of the South Island.

Standing alone in the shallow waters of Lake Wānaka with the Southern Alps providing a dramatic backdrop. This iconic scene offers excellent opportunities for landscape photography throughout the year, with changing light, weather, and seasons creating unique conditions for each visit.
